Samsung was slowly losing the mid-range market of Bangladesh to Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo and co. It took a while for them to come with a solid strategy. Samsung Galaxy M20 is the beginning of what we have been looking for as an answer from the leading brand. Let us evaluate this gadget in this short review.
The Infinity-V or the waterdrop notch display makes this device stand out in the crowd and this time we have got a well-worth 6.22” Full HD+ screen. However, those who know the taste of Samsung’s Super AMOLED display will be a bit disappointed. We have got a PLS TFT screen technology, but still, the colors are quite crisp and vivid which will ensure admirable viewing experience. The body is only 8.8mm slim even with a big battery. But the body is made of plastic and there is no display protection which are some of the downsides regarding design & display.
Samsung’s 14 nm Exynos 7904 chipset is a competitor of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636. It is a solid mid-rangers friend. High-graphics tasks, multitasking, app usage should be very smooth as well as without any overheating issue. If long-term stable performance is the most important factor for you, be sure to choose the 4 GB RAM version. The 5000 mAh battery with fast charging is among the heftiest features of this phone. You can easily go about two days with one single charge as an average user and then fully charge the phone in just one and a half hour. Finally, a perfect battery from Samsung in a lower budget. Overall, we were quite satisfied with the performance.
Samsung has a good reputation for presenting good quality cameras in the mid-range scene. We were also delighted with both the front and dual back camera quality of Galaxy M20. As usual very natural and authentic colors, exposure, dynamic range and focus in the daylight. However, low-light shots were a little inadequate. The brightness is relatively low and the amount of noise was also more than expected. We have seen much better low-light camera and video performance from Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro with clearly finer exposure and details. Also, Xiaomi is giving video stabilization whereas Samsung isn’t. But we found the daylight shots were overall much better in Galaxy M20.
There is a fast face unlock, fingerprint, OTG, dedicated microSD slot and Samsung’s new Experience 9.5 UI specially optimized for the M series. The price looks pretty fair too. Altogether, it is one of the leading mid-range phones in the current market with a few drawbacks mentioned above.
